The Truth About Psychotica's Pat Briggs' Squeezebox (As told to the New York Post)

Every Friday night, Squeezebox at Don Hill's, draws a crowd of the dolled-up glam-rock scene that in an earlier decade could have gone to the now-defunct Steve Paul's the Scene or Maxe's Kansas City, or Club 82.

For Squeezebox co-founder and PSYCHOTICA leader Patrick Briggs, it was a much-needed antidote for the city's "hair" band rock culture six years ago.

"The testosterone involved in that scene was way out of control," says Briggs, who performed with his former bands at the Cat Club and was the bartender at Don Hill's before inventing the Squeezebox. "There was no room for women, no room for anything else but he-man, rock star, long hair bulls--t, it was degrading to everyone involved. {Designer} Michael Schmidt and I decided to start something a lot more open-minded and its success has surpassed our wildest dreams. Squeezebox is internationally known, I never expected it."

While tending bar at Hill's, Briggs watched a lot of other bands on stage and, he laughingly admits, "I did tend to wish they weren't invading my space." He led a few of his own struggling bands in the city over the past eight years, and, with his Iggy Pop meets Ziggy Stardust persona, has finally clicked with the theatrical PSYCHOTICA. The band signed to American Recordings even before they played their first gig, will open Lollapalooza this summer, and are featured in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

In the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, he's a rock star mannequin in a display with David Bowie, Iggy Pop, Marilyn Manson and Trent Reznor. "I was out of my mind with excitement about it," says Briggs.

PSYCHOTICA will open the Main Stage for this year's Lollapalooza '96 festival. Their debut album, Psychotica, will be released July 23.

Lilpat's notes: This was on a neon yellow piece of paper. The top had an italicized handwriting font reading "The Truth About Psychotica's Pat Briggs' "Squeezebox" (As told to the New York Post)". There was a picture from the same shoot as the promo from this press kit, but a different shot of Pat with white mowhawk and dark lips. The number of Steven Cohen was blocked out on this website to protect it. American and Ventrue logos were on the bottom.
