PSYCHOTICA Confirmed on Lollapalooza '96

"I don't care if they arrest me! Or if people freak out! I'm gonna go the whole nine yards this summer!"
--Patrick Briggs, Psychotica

He's been known to open a show by emerging from a smoke-filled, chrome-plated egg. He often performs onstage entirely naked. He's Patrick Briggs, the other-wordly lead singer from PSYCHOTICA, the New York band whose androgynous attitude pushes live performances to the limit, and who recently was confirmed to open the show on the Main Stage at this year's Lollapalooza festival. PSYCHOTICA joins Metallica, Soundgarden, Rancid, The Ramones, and the Screaming Trees as the ats who have been announced on this year's Main Stage.

PSYCHOTICA was born a year ago in Manhattan's downtown club scene and is the brainchild of lead singer Briggs. The group boasts and unheard-of accomplishment for a band that just recently inked its first record deal -- they're already featured in an exhibit in the Rock 'N' Roll Hall of Fame, one feautring Briggs bound in Saran Wrap and crucified on a neon cross.

Playing Lollapalooza will be somewhat of a return for this psychotic sextet who, just last summer in New York, commanded Lollapalooza's Second Stage. Eye-witnesses to those performances are still talking about the band's visually dramatic and musically exotic glamourslammer blitzkrieg. "that was a testing ground for us," Briggs says, "to see if we could make our show work in day-light. We have a dark, New York vibe, but it worked."

As a prelude to Lollapalooza '96 and their upcoming Ventrue/American Recordings debut album set for release during the Lollapalooza tour, PSYCHOTICA are touring the east coast through the end of April. On the first leg of the tour, they opened shows for Iggy Pop. "He'd heard of Psychotica and asked that we be put on the tour." "Kids are tired of watching ordinary-looking guys with flannel shirts and guitars. What the really want now is to be entertained! They want a great show! And I think we give them one."

Lilpat's notes: This was on a bright yellow piece of paper. On top the words "PSYCHOTICA Confirmed on Lollapalooza '96" are in the same "spooky"-ish font used in page 3. The same picture used in page 3 is here also, although it is bigger, so you see that pat is wearing a dress-shirt with a brightly-colored tie. The number of Steven Cohen was blocked out on this website to protect it. At the bottom of the paper there's an American Recordings logo.
